Call for Submissions:  Creative Arts Therapies and the LGBTQ Community

I am interested in assembling a new edited book on art therapy and working with the LGBTQ community.

This book will be formatted as follows:

  • Part I will be about 3-5 chapters focusing specifically on theoretical and clinical issues in working with the LGBTQ community.

For example, intersectionality and diversity, Heterocentrism in the therapeutic setting, identity development, relationships and parenting, families of origin versus families of choice, prejudice and discrimination, coming out, and other relevant issues. (I don’t want to box it into early because I’m interested to see what contributors feel is important and would like to discuss.

  • Part II will consist of five chapters based on the self-studies of creative arts therapists belonging to the LGBTQ community.

Part II includes 5 self-studies that more explicitly examine these issues through personal narrative, and through an art therapy-based exploration that will ultimately be turned into a curriculum (protocol), which could be replicated by another practitioner. (We are developing treatment approaches from Arts-based, heuristic processes.)

  • Part III will be five chapters based on applications in practice (case studies and/or working with groups).

Please submit a brief outline of your protocol/curriculum that demonstrates, step-by-step, a procedure to replicate your work (to the extent that it could be replicated), and create a treatment plan. It may include multiple projects around a central topic, or one project over multiple sessions.

Please Note:

  • All chapters from parts II and III will require a clear cut protocol that allows another practitioner to replicate your methods and process–(to the extent to which it can be replicated). The purpose of this book is to be informative but also to be used as a kind of manual for practitioners.
  • Additionally, parts II and III will be open to multiple modalities, and/or modalities used together.

If you are interested, please contact me directly. We can discuss what you would like to contribute and it’s format. I have a template and proposal form to offer as an outline and that I would like you to follow with respect to protocols.

The benefits of contributing include publishing credits on your resume, continuing education credits with your national credentialing body, and it also counts towards your continuing education contact hours with New York State (if applicable).

Please email me if interested.
